- BLOCK TRANSFORMATION:
- In order to use EDMAP (if you don't have BLK files), you have to
- run MAKEBLK3. PRG (or something like that). This programm converts
- your PI1 pictures into BLK and PAL files that EDMAP 3(TM) can
- load. It saves ONLY, and ALWAYS, 240 16*16 blocks per picture. If
- you want to create several BLK files, you have to quit the block
- maker and reload it each time. (I know, this is not great but I
- can't offer any better for the moment)
- You can save several pictures into the BLK file by loading a
- new PI1 picture every time the fileselector appears. Click on
- CANCEL when you are finished(when all your blocks are converted)
- WARNING : the first block on the first picture is the background
- block. It should be an empty one (but doesn't have to be).
- HOW TO USE EDMAP:
- At the very beginning, EDMAP asks you to select a BLK file.
- You have to have one on one of your disks. Then the file is loaded
- into the memory. Now you can design (I think you do, don't you ?)
- a level (or a map, as you like).
-
- Select a block with left button, then go to the upper part of the
- screen and press the left button. The block will appear on the
- screen. That's it ! you've done it ! you've designed a level !
- now press the right button to delete the block.
-
- How to use the different arrows:
- Press the left button on any of them for a slow scroll.
- Press the right button on any of them for a quick scroll.
-
- I think you know now every "hidden" function. (I mean the
- ones that one can't guess very easily !)
-
- The Dfree problem has been fixed. Now an ALERT box appears
- each time there isn't enough space on the disk for the map to be
- saved.
- This for one of my graphist:
- hey ! you can change the size of the map ! even on a 520 !
- Try all icons !
- BLK FILES FORMAT:
- The BLK files contains 128 bytes per block (of 4bitplanes) multiplied by
- the number of blocks in the file.
- PAL FILES FORMAT:
- 32 bytes for the palette. Of course, STe enhanced palette is used.
- (your PI1 picture has to be of this kind.)
-
- MAP FILES FORMAT:
- 1st word: map width (in blocks)
- 2nd word: map height ( " )
- all words until the end of the file are the map itself
- (I mean RAW data !)
- VARIOUS INFORMATION:
- I coded this programm in GFA BASIC 3.5 on a 2MB STe.
- I guess that because of the above reason it won't work on TT(I'm
- talking about the GFA incompatibility of course !)
- The ASM routines were first developed on the DEVPAC DEVELOPER PACKAGE
- but I then gave it up and used TURBO ASS. (which is shareware and
- in my opinion the best assembler for the moment)(at least for
- demo and game coders)
- I designed the various icons myself. As I am a very bad graphist,
- any complains will be ignored if not coming with a new icon set.
- (PI1 format please)
-
- V2. 6:
- keyboards shortcuts on the numeric pad to scroll into the
- map and into the blocks
-
- v3. 0 : Memory bugs fixed (except now your map has to be smaller than
- 64 ko ! sorry but giant maps are hardly ever used !)
- A great block function to copy a part of the map wherever you
- want in the map (use new icons CUT and PASTE)
- THE UNDO FUNCTION DOESN'T WORK WITH THIS FUNCTION, BUT IT'S
- GONNA BE FIXED VERY SOON !
- v3. 1 ??? sorry I can't remember what I did !
- some debugging I guess !
-
- v3. 2 release date: 1/05/92
- You can pick a big block from the block page !
- (then use the PASTE function to copy it onto the map)
-
- Hey Doodah ! fuck you with your Ultimate Bullshit Editor which can't spot
- media changes ! I crashed the FAT of my main work disk trying to use your
- shit ! You shouldn't cut system interrupts (TIMER C+VBL) all the time !
- how can one code such an anti-ergonomic utility ? have you noticed
- this little grey thing on the side of your st ? yeah you've found out !
- the mouse ! can't you use it a bit more coz I'm fed up with F-keys !
-
-
- SYSTEM PROGRAMMING MAY BE VERY USEFUL FROM TIME TO TIME !
-
- (a former "I always code without system routines" coder is giving you this
- advice)
- P.S: For the silly bastards who don't know it, Doodah is a good friend so
- please don't call the cops !
